Season 1 - Mission Setting [GZIL Collective]

Hello Zilliqa community!

As we prepare for the first Season of grants from the GZIL Collective, we are excited to initiate the Mission Setting Process. This is a key step in ensuring our funding is strategically aligned with the most impactful areas of the Zilliqa ecosystem.

For this inaugural Season, we’re giving our ‘home-team’ projects the opportunity to access funding. We recognise that these projects have already been working on different aspects of the ecosystem, so we propose keeping the mission as broad as possible to ensure all teams have a fair opportunity to secure funding while still driving measurable impact.

Ensuring the Mission Has a Measurable Outcome

While we want to keep this first Season’s mission broad, it’s also important that we define a clear and measurable outcome. This will allow us to assess the impact of grants awarded and refine our approach for future Seasons. With this in mind, we encourage mission suggestions that not only align with Zilliqa’s growth but also provide clear criteria for measuring success .

Community Input: Help Shape the Mission

Now, we invite you - the Zilliqa community - to share your thoughts on what the overarching mission for this Season should be. This Community Input Phase will be open for 1 week , after which the GZIL Committee will review suggestions and shortlist 3-5 mission themes for a community vote.

Given the range of participating projects, some possible mission themes include:

:white_check_mark: “Strengthening the Zilliqa ecosystem by funding projects that drive user adoption, enhance usability, and improve liquidity.”
(Can be measured by user growth, transaction activity, and TVL increase.)

:white_check_mark: “Accelerating innovation across DeFi, wallets, and NFTs to expand the Zilliqa ecosystem and onboard more users.”
(Measured by new users, DEX volume, NFT engagement, and wallet adoption.)

:white_check_mark: “Enhancing the Zilliqa ecosystem by funding impactful projects that improve accessibility, utility, and engagement.”
(Measured by increased transaction volume, DeFi activity, NFT adoption, and number of active users.)

We’d love to hear your suggestions! How do you think we should define the mission for this first Season? What measurable outcomes should we focus on?

Let’s shape this first grant Season together! :rocket:

Hello Zilliqa Community,
I’d like to share a suggestion for the Season 1 mission that I find particularly interesting. With Zilliqa’s scalability and upcoming EVM compatibility, I propose defining the mission as ‘Empowering secure public services through advanced technology’.

This could focus on areas like:
Secure voting: Enabling transparent, anonymous elections for institutions or communities.

Authenticated emails: Protecting public communications (e.g., government notices) from phishing and spoofing.

These use cases could leverage Zilliqa’s strengths to ensure privacy and authenticity, positioning it as a leader in real-world applications beyond DeFi and gaming.

Measurable outcomes to guide this mission:
Potential reach: Achieve a solution scalable to at least 500,000 users within 12 months, targeting public institutions or large communities as a benchmark for impact.

Trust enhancement: Reduce fraud or impersonation risks in digital systems by at least 80% compared to traditional methods, measurable via pilot tests or simulations.

User satisfaction and progress: Achieve a satisfaction rate of 75% or higher among pilot users, reflecting tangible improvements in ease of use and confidence in public services (e.g., voting or email communication).

Community alignment: Secure support from at least 60% of active gZIL holders (based on Snapshot votes or forum polls) to confirm this mission aligns with community priorities.

What do you think of this direction? Should we prioritize secure public services, and what other precise outcomes could help shape this mission?

Hey everyone,

Really great to see this community-led approach to shaping the grant mission. One theme I’d love to see explored is something like:

“Driving on-chain activity and real-world utility by supporting projects that spark ecosystem usage and deepen user engagement.”

For me, this keeps the mission broad but still focused on measurable impact. Things like token usage, liquidity flows, and new user touchpoints — those are indicators that something real is happening, not just ideas being funded.

It also allows for flexibility: some teams might build new dApps, others might focus on infrastructure, while some focus purely on growth or liquidity — but as long as it leads to visible ecosystem activity, it adds value.

I think a lot of us are here because we believe in Zilliqa’s long-term potential — and this is a good chance to kickstart a flywheel of usage, creativity, and compounding value.

Curious what others think — especially those watching from the sidelines or working quietly behind the scenes. What would you like to see more of this season?

Thanks for the efforts so far by the collective and appreciate the collaborative mission-setting process for this first season.

As we look ahead, the upcoming launch of Zilliqa 2.0 in the next month presents a unique and timely opportunity. ZQ2’s enhanced transaction speed and throughput, and full EVM capabilities are significant advancements for the network. We believe aligning this inaugural grant season with the ZQ2 launch, focusing on projects that can immediately leverage and showcase these new capabilities, would be highly impactful.

Proposed Mission Theme:

  • “Activating Zilliqa 2.0: Harnessing Speed and EVM Compatibility to Scale Core Applications and Enhance User Experience.”

Reasons:

  • Timely & Strategic: Directly ties the grant season to the major ZQ2 network upgrade, creating immediate relevance and excitement.
  • Showcases ZQ2 Strength: Encourages projects (especially established ones) to optimise for, utilise, and demonstrate the benefits of ZQ2’s primary feature – speed and throughput – right from launch.
  • Broad Application: While highlighting throughput, it remains broad enough for various core applications. DeFi protocols can demonstrate faster execution and higher volume capacity. User-centric tools (wallets) can showcase improved responsiveness and smoother interactions. Other infrastructure or dApp projects can also align by showing how they utilise ZQ2’s enhanced performance. This allows virtually any EVM-compatible dApp to potentially showcase the power of ZQ2. I would love to see the use of AI and Blockchain onchain transactions also, but thats likely for another season
  • Leverages Full ZQ2 Potential: Incorporating EVM compatibility taps into a vast developer pool and existing tooling, allowing for easier migration of established dApps and faster development of new, innovative solutions alongside Zilliqa’s native Scilla

Measurable Outcomes / Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

This mission’s success can be measured by observing improvements enabled by ZQ2’s capabilities within participating projects:

  1. Increased Transaction Volume: Growth in the number of transactions processed by participating applications, demonstrating utilisation of higher throughput.
  2. Enhanced Financial Activity: Higher DEX trading volumes and faster execution of trades/swaps. (Higher volume directly contributes to LP returns, creating a strong incentive for increasing TVL - a key growth area for the ecosystem and one that needs support).
  3. Improved User Experience & Adoption: Faster load times or action completion times within participating dApps; growth in Daily/Monthly Active Users engaging with these applications; increased adoption and meaningful use of project tokens within their respective dApps.

I believe this mission effectively bridges the goal of supporting established projects with the strategic opportunity presented by ZQ2. It provides a clear focus—demonstrating the power of the upgraded network through practical application—while remaining measurable and relevant to a wide range of core ecosystem projects.

I also feel the 3 suggestions that were in the original post also fit a very similar look and feel and captures the same essense. (as do the other suggestions so far which are also great).
